I was at the Sedona Yoga Festival in Arizona February 6-10th, and had an amazing time! I went with my mama, who came from Idaho and met me in Las Vegas to make the 5 hour drive together to Sedona. We got there after dark, so the next morning was a beautiful surprise when we woke up to see the gorgeous and unique landscape. You can truly feel the powerful energy of the red rocks and vortexes, and the vibration of the earth when you are there.
The festival had a packed schedule of interesting offerings from instructors from all over, and workshops on topics from all traditions of yoga. The Heart Village had vendors, and each night showcased musicians and fire dancers. My mom and I took a Kundalini class from an intuitive who gave readings to all the students (mine was dead on, but my mom was told she needed to cut back on eating hot dogs- hilarious since she is a super healthy eater!), took a yoga nidra practice with 100+ other students, a vinyasa class that started with a rowdy “Bolo Rama” chant, and a cool chakra and astrology class. It was hard to fit it all in, plus take time to relax in the spa at our wonderful hotel.
I was so happy to teach my vinyasa Flow + Groove class with live DJs Mental Physix on Saturday afternoon. I really enjoy meeting new friends when I teach in other places, and love when I see students accept my invitation to create their own experience on their mat (even spontaneously dancing with their eyes closed!). Sometimes, it just feels good to have permission to do your own thing without worrying if you are “doing it right” or being concerned that the teacher is going to call you our for not doing what you are “supposed” to do. Plus, I feel so lucky to keep running into my Mental Physix friends at festivals and on their tours, and get to collaborate with their talented deep beats…
I got to spend some time hanging with my buddy Crisanto Santa Ana of Live Free Productions doing a photo and video shoot at one of the four vortexes in Sedona, which was pretty magical.
This festival was a roaring success, and the planning is already in full swing for SYF 2015. Plan to attend, you don’t want to miss this experience!
